Statement on MTA Task Force Recommendations

“The GCA strongly supports the recommendations presented today by MTA Board Member Scott Rechler, who chaired the MTA’s capital projects cost task force.  He is clearly someone who understands what it takes to efficiently take a project from concept to completion.  Having participated in previous “reform” task forces in 2008, 2011, and 2014, where we made similar recommendations, we now have real hope that the MTA will make the changes that are so vitally needed.

We especially support the recommendations that improve the MTA’s pre-construction processes. Too many problems that become evident during construction have their genesis at the earliest stages of a project. By addressing project scoping, improving design review prior to bidding, and offering greater opportunities for the industry to offer alternatives and innovations, the MTA will reduce contractor risk, project costs, and inconveniences to the public.”
