New York City is investing in major resiliency efforts to protect vulnerable neighborhoods from coastal storms. The $1.45 billion East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) project is building floodwalls, raised parks, and deployable barriers along the Lower East Side, with GCA members Skanska USA and Halmar International leading key work. In Queens, the Rockaway Boardwalk Reconstruction, led by Skanska USA, rebuilt nearly five miles of storm-resilient boardwalk after Superstorm Sandy. These projects strengthen flood protection while improving waterfront access for communities.
