Scholarships

Through the John F. Donohoe Scholarship Fund, the GCA has provided summer internships with member companies to hundreds of students pursuing civil engineering careers. John Donohoe Scholarship students receive firsthand experience, gaining relevant skills in the office and in the field, with hands-on training in site safety management, cost estimating, project scheduling, and other activities related to heavy civil construction.

The scholarship was created to honor a former GCA president, John F. Donohoe. Donohoe was a champion of the civil engineering profession, mentor and recipient of the American Society for Civil Engineering’s highest honor, the OPAL award. Since the scholarship’s inception in 2009, over $1 million in awards have been given.

Eligibility & Enrollment

To be eligible, students with a major in engineering or construction management must have completed a summer internship with a GCA member after their junior year of college, and then be recommended by that member for the scholarship.
