Statement on the Completion of the Kosciuszko Bridge

August 28, 2019

“The opening of Phase 2 of the Kosciuszko Bridge, four years ahead of schedule, is a historic achievement.  On behalf of the 300 heavy civil construction firms and the 25,000 unionized skilled tradespeople we represent at the General Contractors Association of NY (GCA), we congratulate Governor Cuomo, the NYS Department of Transportation, Granite Construction, and all the men and women who worked on the project,” said Art Corwin, President of the GCA.  “It just proves New Yorkers can still dream – and build – big.  For decades our state’s infrastructure only deteriorated, but today, we’ve once again proven that with strong leadership, smart investment, and innovative construction techniques, New York can once again be a national leader on infrastructure.”

Robert Wessels, Acting Executive Director of the GCA said, “The Kosciuszko Bridge Replacement, Phase 2 project included an aggressive schedule, but we never doubted it could get done.  Even better, the project finished ahead of schedule, overcoming multiple unanticipated challenges. Congrats to the Granite Construction team and NYSDOT for working closely to deliver this significant project in such a timely fashion.”
