Statement from the GCA on the Release of the MTA’s Draft Five-Year 2020-2024 Capital Plan
Statement from Art Corwin, President of the GCA
“The General Contractors Association (GCA) is extremely pleased by the extraordinary commitment demonstrated by MTA leadership, from Chairman Pat Foye and Ronnie Hakim and their Agency Presidents, to MTA Director of Development, Janno Lieber, in proposing a robust Capital Program of this magnitude. It is a bold and ambitious plan that will not only help re-build key elements of the MTA’s deteriorating system, but one that is also forward-looking in terms of building for the commuting needs of a growing 21st Century New York. We congratulate the MTA and look forward to working with them to make the proposed plan the adopted plan.”
Statement from Robert Wessels, Acting Executive Director of the GCA
“Our 300 GCA member firms and their 25,000 unionized heavy civil construction employees who build virtually all of New York’s critical infrastructure, look forward to partnering with the MTA and its Capital Program team to advance this historic and well thought out plan. We are particularly pleased by the strong commitment to Phase II of the Second Avenue Subway which will be a game-changer for tens of thousands of New Yorkers in upper Manhattan who are now underserved by transit. As New Yorkers ourselves who live, work and educate our children here – and use the MTA system every day to get around — we applaud the boldness of the plan and pledge our support to help the MTA secure the necessary resources to fully fund it.”
